Belge

The Belge is a slender traditional tobacco pipe shape with roots in the era of European clay pipes. It typically features a tall, gently forward-canted bowl with a subtle tulip-like profile, paired with a long, narrow shank that is straight or only slightly curved.

Although the Belge is sometimes confused with the Cutty, the two shapes have important differences. A Belge generally has less forward cant and does not feature the pronounced heel spur associated with many Cutty pipes. Its restrained curves and elongated proportions give the shape an elegant, lightweight appearance.

Interpretations vary among brands and pipe makers, particularly in the bowl’s height, degree of cant, and curvature of the shank and stem. Belge pipes may also carry smooth, sandblasted, or rusticated finishes. MBSD’s selection can include both modern examples and estate pipes from earlier periods of production.
