Description

Much like the MBSD Meerschaum Silver and Silver Cap lines, the Double Silver is comprised exclusively of sterling silver-mounted meerschaum. But, as the name suggests, Double Silver pipes are mounted not once, but twice. Each features a sterling silver cap at its rim, protecting the bowl and chamber from slips of the flame and lava build-up, as well as a sterling silver fitment at the shank end, typically in the form of an army mount. Each is made using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish block meerschaum found on our other various meerschaum lines, but with even more finery than any of the meers we’ve offered thus far.

Though the name of the “Devil Anse” is a new one, the design itself is very old, and can likely be traced all the way back to the functionalist forms of clay pipes. Otherwise known as the “Belge” (as well as a few other, slightly less “politically correct” ones), the Devil Anse is essentially a slightly bulbous, sharply forward-canted egg, mirroring the figures of the tavern clay, but in proportions more suited to briar or meerschaum. This is one of MBSD Meerschaum’s various interpretations in the latter medium, with a host of extra additions that make it all the more special. Mounted at both ends with sterling silver and dressed in quintessentially Turkish floral carvings, the pipe also features an amber-toned acrylic mouthpiece, evoking those of its spiritual ancestors, reverse calabash system nestled within its shank. The latter is a slightly more modern touch (though with a long pre-history) being essentially a hollow chamber nestled within the shank, which gives the smoke more room to cool and dry as it passes from the pipe’s chamber to one’s lips.
