About MBSD Pipes

We’re Mitchell and Sarah, and MBSD started at our kitchen table.

When our youngest daughter was born, we wanted Sarah to be able to stay home with her. So we opened a small eBay store with about two dozen pipes. Mitchell restored pipes on his day off and photographed and listed them each night after work. Sarah spent a few hours a day packing and shipping orders. We called it MBSD Meerschaum back then. In the beginning, our goal was simple: build something that let our family be together.

The shop grew one pipe at a time. Customers came back. Collectors and families began trusting us with their estate pipes, and that trust changed what we were doing. We weren’t just selling pipes anymore. We were caring for collections that meant something to the people who built them, and making sure each pipe found someone who would enjoy it.

In 2022 we brought on Debasis to help give the shop a more finished look and to keep the business running smoothly behind the scenes. By 2023 we had outgrown eBay, and MBSD Pipes moved home to MBSDpipes.com. That same year James joined us. He’s a true pipe historian, and he brought a depth of knowledge MBSD had been missing. Thanks to him, our descriptions are some of the most detailed you’ll find anywhere, and we keep our sold listings on the site so that history stays available to every pipe smoker and collector who comes looking.

Before long we were listing new pipes every night, seven days a week, with a team that restores, photographs, describes, and ships every one. In 2026 MaKayla joined us in the shop and on shipping.

We’re also known for our packing. Every order is wrapped in tissue paper in MBSD colors, finished with MBSD stickers, and packed well enough to survive a hurricane.

Today we write hundreds of quotes a year for estate collections and send more than 5,000 pipes a year to smokers and collectors around the world. In 2025 we launched our own house brand, MBSD Briars. In the Timeless Traditions, Modern Masters, and by Vitale lines, the K and E grades are named for our girls, the reason all of this started.

Our goal now is to build a shop that lasts: one that takes care of our family, our team, and the pipe smokers and collectors who have trusted us along the way. We take our job of preserving pipe history seriously, because the stories behind these pipes, and the people who made them, deserve to be remembered. The shop has grown, but the work hasn’t changed. Every pipe still passes through our hands, and every one still gets a personal touch.
