Savinelli Solaria 614 Smooth Oom Paul Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 6mm

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for over 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

It seems that the Solaria originally debuted in the 1990s—according to Savinelli’s own account—and it further seems that, when the line was first introduced, it was comprised exclusively of oversized shapes from Savinelli’s “EX” series. The line did make a return almost a decade ago, however, with the one key difference between the two iterations being that the latter included Savinelli’s standard shapes. This one comes from that second issue, taking the form of Savinelli’s popular full-bent, borderline Oom Paul, billiard shape, the “614.” The Solaria was always a rather beautiful pipe, especially in its smooth variant, with a light finish that merely accentuated the excellent grain underneath, which was further elevated by twin brass accents and an amber-tone acrylic mouthpiece. The Solari is no longer in production, so here’s a chance to get one for those who missed either of its releases.

This pipe is completely unsmoked. As with most modern Savinelli pipes, it is chambered to accommodate a 6mm filter, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, if desired, but will also perform perfectly well without one.
