About this pipe:

Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes—one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.

Sasieni always had particularly exacting standards for its pipes, even within the English pipe scene, so when a bowl was found to have even the tiniest, superficial imperfection, the bowl would be used for one of Sasieni’s many sub-brands.

The Coventry was a rather unique example of such a sub-brand. It was rusticated, but not in the same style as other Sasieni pipes, main-brand or otherwise. It blended a very light, hand-hewn relief with geometric furrows around the bowl, almost like certain American briars from the first half of the 20th century, but with a little more English elegance.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
