Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

The Rua is a relatively recent addition to Peterson’s portfolio, utilizing a labor-intensive sandblasting and contrast staining technique much like those of high-end artisan pipes. It makes for a beautiful pipe, but given the time and energy that goes into executing the finish Peterson produces very few Rua pipes in a given year, and it’s often reserved for more limited or occasional releases.

One such limited release is the Charles Peterson Collection, which aims to both pay tribute to, and to add to, the legacy of Charles Peterson and the Peterson make as innovators in the field of pipe design. This Collection is comprised of pipes that are different from the norm and are simply too complex and detail-oriented to produce in large numbers, hence the Rua’s inclusion.

The condition is great. Some rim darkening, though nothing major.
