Peterson 1998 St Patrick’s Day X105 Smooth Billiard (Estate)

Out of stock

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

It is only natural that a great Irish pipe company should honor Ireland’s patron saint, which Peterson has done each year since 1998, in the form of their St Patrick’s Day pipe. Given that we sell many new and estate Peterson pipes, we see a fair few St Patrick’s Day pipes from various years come and go. But there’s one year’s pipe that doesn’t come around all that often: the very first one, from 1998. It seems that the 1998 release is relatively difficult to come by anywhere these days, so imagine my surprise when this pipe turned up. It belongs to that inaugural run and, quite fittingly, wears the trídhathach at its shank end, along with a warm brown finish.

The condition is fair. Some rim darkening, slight blemishes to the finish on the bowl, and some minor residual oxidation on the mouthpiece.
