Il Ceppo Magnum Partially Rusticated Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description
Founded by the architect Giorgio Imperatori in Pesaro, Italy, Il Ceppo is a workshop that produces high-end, handmade pipes, and a central figure in what has been called the “Pesaro school” of pipe design. This “school” was inaugurated in the 1970s with the emergence of workshops such as Imperatori’s Il Ceppo and Giacarlo Guidi’s Mastro de Paja, with each of its “members” being based in, or having some connection to, the town of Pesaro on Italy’s Adriatic coast. The Pesaro school is not simply a matter of shared location, however; there are common stylistic threads between member workshops and, quite often, individuals who have been part of more than one such workshop at different points in time.
In the case of this Il Ceppo pipe, it is a rather unique looking one, taking the form of a magnum-sized, partially rusticated freehand Dublin, though, even then, there’s still plenty of the Pesaro school to it. Though the Pesaro style was not one that originally focused on oversized pipes, it did, over the decades, begin to incorporate ever-larger pieces in that shared evolution. The Ser Jacopo Maxima grades, for example, or the Rinaldo Titania and Megas lines, have been part of this development, as have Il Ceppo’s rare, magnum offerings. The other aspects of the pipe’s style, too, have become part of the Pesaro identity, such as the move into designs that lean closer to “freehand” as commonly understood, something that originally, for Il Ceppo, was part of a separate Free Line series. The finish, on the other hand, is something that has always been part of “Pesaro” pipes, just as it has with the pipes of other famous Italian locales, like Cantu: high-grade, pebble-dash texturing.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. Some scratches on the rim, though superficial.
