Aldo Velani Ambrosia Smooth Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description

Aldo Velani pipes are made by Cesare Barontini at the latter’s factory in Italy. Originally, Aldo Velani was conceived by Mastercraft to be a new Italian make for the American market, as all of Mastercraft’s other pipes at the time were of English or French origin. Mastercraft partnered with Barontini, and thus the Aldo Velani make was born. More recently, Aldo Velani was acquired by Mitchell Thomas, with production—still by Barontini—recommencing after 2008.

Ambrosia was the food of the gods in ancient Greece and no doubt was the namesake of this particular Aldo Velani. After all, ambrosia was a golden, honey-like drink, reflected not only in the swirling tones of this pipe’s mouthpiece, but also its warm, caramel finish. As for the rest of the design, it’s a good, large billiard rendition—classic as the arts of antiquity.

The condition is good. Minor rim darkening and a couple of small, worn out fills.
