4th Generation (by Peder Jeppesen) Argang Dark Porter 1982 Sandblasted Dublin with Brass (9mm) (Unsmoked Estate)

4th Generation—or, rather, Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation, to use its full name—is a brand of pipes first conceived by Denmark’s Erik Stokkebye, who holds the accomplishment of representing the most recent of the four (so far) generations of the Stokkebye family’s involvement in pipes and tobaccos. Erik Stokkebye himself does not make pipes; rather, he contracts this task to some of the world’s great pipe makers, most of which are also Danish, to create them. Those familiar with the history of Danish pipes may already be familiar with the pipes made by Jorgen Larsen for Peter Stokkebye (Erik’s father) around the 1970s. Several decades later, Erik would become the second generation in the Stokkebye family to do the same.

The Argang, or, more precisely, Årgang, was the very first series of pipes to be sold under Erik Stokkebye’s 4th Generation label, originally debuting in 2012. In keeping with Stokkebye family tradition, Erik enlisted one of Denmark’s most accomplished pipe makers to design and craft these pipes, the artisan Peder Jeppesen, and they have been made by Jeppesen in his workshop ever since. The “1982” was Jeppesen’s contribution of a distinctly Danish Dublin to the Årgang series, seen here dressed in a crisp, ring grain sandblast and accented with acrylic and brass. I haven’t seen any new pipes from the Årgang series lately, so it is possible that they are no longer in production, though I could be wrong.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, and comes with its original box. It is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
