A common practice among pipe companies in the 20th century was the production of “seconds.” If you can think of a major pipe brand from the last 100 years, it’s almost certain that a seconds brand (or, in some instances, many seconds brands) came from the same production line. Essentially, seconds were pipes that were discovered to have minor, purely cosmetic, imperfections at one stage or another in the manufacturing process. Instead of throwing these perfectly good pipes away, companies used seconds brands to offer them at more affordable prices. This particular pipe is an example of such, purportedly (by Pipedia) made by the company behind Comoy’s pipes. I did not note any nomenclature that confirmed this further, so I’ll err on the side of treating it (including its price) solely as a Wiltshire.
The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening and some slight scratches around the bowl, though nothing major.
