Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand—a title that it continues to hold to this day.
To my knowledge, the Soeren was discontinued some time ago, but while it was in production it was one of Vauen’s higher-end lines, denoted by the Weißpunkt, or “white point” inlaid in its mouthpiece. In a way, it’s an interesting interpretation of the old English “dress pipe,” with pairing a dark, sandblast finish (and an even more dark, black acrylic mouthpiece) with a narrow, off-white accent. In this instance, however, the accent has been turned from maple wood, whose tones resonate nicely with the slight contrast given to the bowl’s ring grain sandblast treatment.
The condition is very good. Some minor scratches on the rim. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
