Vauen Giant 419 Partially Rusticated Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
While by no means magnum in proportions, Vauen’s Giant pipes have historically been larger than their standard lines, typically taking the form of palm-filling reimaginings of classic Vauen designs. This one comes from Vauen’s higher-end White Dot (or Weisspunkt) series, and I believe it is from the Giant Kollection within that series, made around 2010. As one can see, it is a very stout bent brandy, with a definite Danish influence to its shaping. It also wears an interesting, partial micro-rustication, giving it a slight resemblance to the old W.O. Larsen Rustica line, as well as plenty of extra grip in the hand.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters.
