Vauen by Barontini Rusticated Brandy w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand—a title that it continues to hold to this day.    

Vauen is less commonly known for its collaborations with famous designers than other makers, such as Stanwell, but the company has nonetheless partnered with quite a few very interesting individuals and companies. These include Oliver Brandt, Radice, Mastro de Paja, and, in the case of this one, Caesare Barontini. The latter, as seen here, tended toward a synthesis of the German and Italian styles; broad and stout as German pipes tend to be, but often with a splash (or, in this instance, more than a splash) of typically Italian pebble-dash rustication, and, as also seen here, occasionally with rather ornate silver collars, or faux spigot mounts. As far as I’m aware, Vauen hasn’t partnered with Barontini in well over a decade now, making pipes like this one a rare treat to come across.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
