Stanwell Royal Guard 232 Smooth Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

Stanwell’s Royal Guard has been one of Stanwell’s flagship smooth lines for what must be decades now. Dressed in a shining, reddish-brown polished finish that works wonders on the grain underneath, it is simply a classic line from the most classic Danish make. This bird’s-eye laden example is rendered in the shape “232,” a plump Danish apple designed by Stanwell’s most prolific collaborator, the legendary artisan Tom Eltang.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. Some slight scuffs on the stem, though nothing major. The pipe is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
