Savinelli Standing 111 KS Rusticated Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates, 6mm

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The idea behind Savinelli’s Standing line was a simple one: to offer a series of pipes that were exclusively sitter designs, meaning each could be set down and would remain upright on its own accord when the situation demanded it. Some shapes from the Standing line were already sitter shapes from Savinelli’s catalog, whereas others were slightly modified catalog shapes, specifically regarding the base of the pipe. This one is a slightly unusual rendition of Savinelli’s signature large billiard, the “111 KS,” whose underside has been faceted so that it too can balance unaided in a manner that won’t risk the button coming into direct contact with the surface it is placed on (such as an outdoor table).

The condition is great. Very minor inner rim darkening, but it’s clearly been properly looked after.

As with most modern Savinelli pipes, this one is chambered to accommodate 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, if desired, but will also perform perfectly well without one.
