Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
If memory serves, the Savinelli Gaius line was first released in the early 2010s, and though I’m not sure when the last release was, I do know that it has since been discontinued. It was essentially Savinelli’s reinterpretation of an army mount line, one that used acrylic for said mount, rather than metal, such as silver or nickel. Interestingly, however, the addition of the acrylic mount seems to have involved also adding little extra stoutness to each of the shapes featured in the Gaius line, making shapes like this “616 KS” bent billiard even more muscular than they would otherwise be.
This pipe is completely unsmoked. I note a couple of small, worn out fills, though nothing major. As with most modern Savinelli pipes, it is chambered to accommodate 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, if desired, but will also perform perfectly well without one.
