Savinelli Dante Sandblasted Diplomat w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Not unlike Dunhill in England and Peterson in Ireland, Savinelli will, on occasion, produce limited edition pipes to commemorate the great figures of Italian culture. From the archetypical Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci to 19th century artists like Giacomo Leopardi or Guiseppe Verdi. In 2021, Savinelli paid tribute to the writer, philosopher, and father of the modern Italian language, Dante Alighieri. As 2021 marked 700 years since the passing of Dante, Savinelli created a unique pipe in his honor, a burgundy sandblasted diplomat, fitted with a sterling silver engraving of Dante’s profile (as a side note, in addition to being a lovely looking pipe, it’s very appropriate that a diplomat shape was employed here, given that Dante himself was a political ambassador, in addition to his artistic career). Only 700 Dante pipes were ever produced, so it’s nice to see one pop up “in the wild” once more, half a decade later.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
