Diplomat

The Diplomat is a traditional Anglo-French tobacco pipe shape generally characterized by a broad, low-profile bowl and a restrained bend through the shank and stem. Depending on the maker, the bowl may resemble a squat Pot, Tomato, Brandy, or Author, giving the shape a substantial appearance without requiring an especially tall chamber.

The Diplomat is sometimes referred to as a Banker, although naming conventions vary among brands and periods of production. English and French interpretations are typically conservative, while Danish and Italian pipe makers have produced larger, more sculptural variations.

Diplomat pipes may be made from briar, meerschaum, or other traditional pipe materials and can carry smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, or carved finishes.
