Peterson Killarney Red XL90 Smooth Bent Billiard (Estate)

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

First introduced in the 1940s, the Killarney has been a staple in Peterson’s catalog for many decades now. Its look has undergone a few changes here and there to suit the preferences of the pipe smokers of the day, though it has consistently been a paragon of a simple, well made pipe. The modern Killarney Red, seen here, is distinguished by its ruby-red finish and two narrow nickel accents, which offset nicely its jet-black vulcanite mouthpiece. This one takes the form of Peterson’s “XL90” stout bent billiard rendition, a modern revival of the make’s oversized briars from its earliest years.

The condition is fair. Some scratches around the rim and minor oxidation on the mouthpiece.
