Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
Peterson has made pipes in the “army mounted” style for well over a century now, and are arguably a big part of the reason the style is as popular as it is. The the make’s flagship model is the Irish Made Army, a nickel army mounted series of classic Anglo-French shapes. The Army Filter is an extension of Irish Made Army lineage, offering pipe smokers a chance to enjoy such a design while also using a 9mm filter. This one, for example, is a beautifully sandblasted rendition of Peterson’s shape “120” Dublin, with ring grain lining its bowl underneath a reserved, near-black finish.
This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters, whether they be of the activated charcoal, meerschaum, or balsa variety.
