Papa Bear’s Pipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.

The traditional calabash is a design famous not only for its distinctive shape, but for its cool and dry smoking properties. It achieves this by having a large, hollow body in addition to the chamber itself, which provides ample room for the smoke that passes through it to expand, cool, and dry before it reaches the mouthpiece. One major drawback with the traditional calabash, however, is its large size, which is necessary to house the aforementioned hollow chamber. Modern artisans have returned to the basic system of the calabash in recent years, finding ways to incorporate it into pipes without unduly bulking up their designs. Reverse calabash systems, like the one incorporated into this signature, scalloped egg from Tim Beaumont, incorporate a hollowed section into their shanks, rather than the main body of the bowl, providing a similar cooling and drying effect while being more amenable to contemporary artisan designs.
