Egg

The Egg is named for the smooth, ovoid profile of its bowl. Its sides curve continuously from the heel toward the rim, giving the shape a softer and more organic appearance than the cylindrical Billiard or bottom-heavy Brandy.

The name refers strictly to the pipe’s shape, not its finish. Egg tobacco pipes may be smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, or partially finished in more than one style. They are most commonly bent, allowing the rounded bowl to flow naturally into the shank and mouthpiece, although straight, paneled, oversized, and freehand interpretations are also produced.

Italian and Danish pipe makers have been particularly influential in expanding the Egg beyond its traditional proportions. MBSD’s changing inventory includes new, estate, and unsmoked estate Egg pipes from factory brands and individual pipe makers.
