Papa Bear’s Pipes by Tim Beaumont Sandblasted Egg w/ Mammoth Handmade Briar Pipe, New

Papa Bear’s Pipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.

The egg has become a prominent staple in Tim Beaumont’s portfolio of late. Inspired by the many legendary Danish renditions of the shape over the last 70 years, Beaumont’s interpretation here leans a little toward those of the early Danish pioneers, such as Poul Rasmussen or Emil Chonowitsch, while being very much its own thing. Situated on the borderline between the egg and the post-war Danish “tulip” cutty genre, Beaumont’s approach involves a “scalloped” approach to the bowl, lending it even more of an organic aesthetic, along with a deep red finish with streaks of contrast that crisscross the contours of an especially craggy sandblast. This one includes an accent cut from fossilized mammoth bone and a dark blue, brindled ebonite stem, adding a more modern touch to the form.
