Description

Papa Bear’s Pipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.

Tim Beaumont makes pipes in a variety of shapes and styles, but this one might be a first, at least as far as I’ve seen. The shaping is fairly Danish, as with many of Beaumont’s pipes of late, with a slight lean toward some of the stubbier, post-Scandinavian artisans, such as Vladimir Grechukhin and the St Petersburg crowd. On the other hand, the finish is something else entirely. Utilizing a partial sandblast, juxtaposed against the bowl’s smooth polished sections, the pipe has something of a “Jekyll and Hyde” aesthetic, not unlike the one pursued by Peterson, as well as a number of Italian workshops. It suits the pipe well, especially in the slight asymmetry of the hard cut that separates one finish from another at the bowl’s front (split personalities are rarely even in distribution or intensity, after all, as those close to Dr Jekyll would ultimately discover).
