Mimmo Provenzano B Smooth Acorn w/ Olivewood Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
One of the best things about receiving batches of new old stock pipes is that, to an extent, the exact assortment of makes and makers included is a little random. In other words, there’s often one or two brands in there that you didn’t expect, or that might be novel to you. This one was certainly unexpected, but was a pleasant surprise.
The pipe is from Mimmo Provenzano, one of Italy’s premier artisans working today, and who is a master of the craft in just about all aspects. He selects, cuts, and cures his own briar; he, of course, turns all of his own bowls by hand, doing the same for his stems and accents; and he has his own particular way of finishing his pieces, with firm preferences over which stains and waxes should be used. This B grade acorn-Rhodesian is a little reminiscent of the early Danish pipe makers, like Emil Chonowitsch, Sixten Ivarsson, or others in the Suhr milieu, though with a much more Italian, blonde finish and a beautifully carved olivewood accent—one that almost looks like a chess piece or scrimshaw.
This pipe is completely unsmoked.
