Description
L’Anatra pipes are made by the artisan duo Massimo Palazzi and Andrea Pascucci in northern Italy’s Pesaro region. Those with some familiarity with Italian pipes will likely recognize that particular region, as it is the home of what has come to be known as the “Pesaro School” of high-grade pipe making. Through its close network of artisans and workshops, Pesaro has been an epicenter for some of the finest pipes in Europe, including those of Mastro de Paja, Ser Jacopo, Le Nuvole, and—of course—L’Anatra.
Though it has since ceased operations, for a long time, Germany’s Dan Pipe would organize a Pipe of the Year, a Christmas Pipe, and a variety of other, limited edition creations for its dedicated customers. For these occasions, Dan Pipe would commission Europe’s most esteemed pipe makers to supply the pipes themselves, with Hans Former Nielsen, Les Wood and Dolly Wood of Ferndown and Elwood, Holmer Knudsen, and Stanwell being among them. Another esteemed pipe outfit contracted by Dan Pipe was Massimo Palazzi and Andrea Pascucci’s L’Anatra, who produced this silver capped panel Lovat. Three finishes were offered: one partially rusticated, one dark smooth, and one light smooth, seen here, which was to be the rarest and most expensive model.
The condition is very good. Some slight scratches on the silver cap and minor handling marks. As the pipe was made for the German market, it is drilled to allow for the use of 9mm filters, or for an adapter if unfiltered use is preferred.
