Description
Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Guiseppe Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, “Caminetto.” Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated “Business,” and the carved, wax-drip “New Dear.”
While there is a significant stylistic difference between the Caminetto pipes of the Ascorti & Radice partnership and the more recent ones made by the Ascorti family, this was not always the case. In the early years of the Ascortis’ Caminetto revival, from around the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, Caminetto pipes were just like they had been in decades prior. Whether it was the shape of the bowl, the finishes used, or indeed the cut of the mouthpiece, the new Caminetto very much “carried the torch” when it came to pipe design. Later on, the Ascorti make became the spiritual successor to Caminetto, and Caminetto became something quite new, but one still finds pipes like this one that could easily be mistaken for something crafted decades earlier than it was. All of this is to say that, for those looking for an “old-style” Caminetto, the window of opportunity for finding one is a little larger than might first be thought.
The condition is great. Some minor finish fading, though it’s negligible given Caminetto’s signature rugged aesthetic.
