Description

Named for the company’s home township, Brebbia was founded in 1953 by Enea Buzzi, an alum of Savinelli’s manufacturing division. Still in operation 70 years later, Brebbia is one of Italy’s oldest extant pipe companies, with production still being undertaken using simple lathes and traditional methods of hand finishing. More recently, Brebbia has also collaborated with master artisan carvers from across to design some of its pipes, such as Denmark’s Rainer Barbi, Germany’s Otto Pollner and Holger Frickert, Italy’s Fausto Fincato, and Japan’s Tsuge.

While its origins reside in the old school designs of the Anglo-French tradition, the author is a shape that has thoroughly been captured by Italian pipe making, to the point where it’s hard to think of a notable example without ending up at the latter. The “301” is one of many author renditions produced by Varese’s Brebbia workshop, and has all of the hallmark plumpness of Italian approaches to the form, while being a little more squat than, say, the “602” or “2112” shapes. This one comes from Brebbia’s Ninja line, distinguished by its dark brown, “weathered” sandblast finish and tortoiseshell acrylic mouthpiece.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original (slightly time-worn) box.
