While many contemporary pipe makers find inspiration in the avant-garde stylings of the Danish masters and their progeny, Greek artisan Yorgos Mitakidis has carved a far more traditional path for himself. Drawing on the designs that made England and France the pipe making powerhouses of the 20th century, Mitakidis has, since 2017, offered a distinct, updated take on the classics, all of which are hand made in his workshop in Thessaloniki.

A good billiard is by no means easy to make, though you could be forgiven for making that mistake when poring over the works of Yorgos Mitakidis. The man makes it look effortless, putting out one perfect rendition after another, seemingly without fail. This particular example has something of an interwar Shell Briar look to it, with a deep burgundy top-coat dressing a wonderfully craggy sandblast finish, all while keeping the pipe’s overall weight at just a hair over an ounce.

The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening and some slight weathering of the pipe’s horn accent, though nothing major. This pipe comes with its original sleeve.
