Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Just like KB&B and Savinelli, Vauen had their own version of something like a Peterson System pipe. It too had a stem with an upward-facing slot at the end of its stem, which would direct smoke so that it didn’t immediately flow onto one’s tongue, reducing bite. In a move closer to Savinelli’s Dry System, however, Vauen’s “System”-style pipes substituted a moisture reservoir for a tenon chambered to fit filters, in which that moisture would be contained instead. This is another of those pipes, taking the form of a stout German billiard with a tasteful brass faux-spigot mount.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. As with most Vauen pipes, it is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
