It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for over 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
Taking its name from the Italian for “blonde,” the Bionda is one of Savinelli’s many long-discontinued line, one distinguished by—as one might guess—its light, blonde finish, black vulcanite mouthpiece, and twin accents of brass at the base of the latter. Being a light smooth pipe, Bionda pipes generally had excellent grain (such finishes rarely being used otherwise), as demonstrated by this seldom-seen “623” bulldog rendition.
The condition is good. Some darkening and finish fading on the rim, and a couple of small scratches on the bowl.
