As with so many of today’s premier Italian workshop makes, the story of Rinaldo begins at Mastro de Paja. The latter was a workshop founded by Giancarlo Guidi (later of Ser Jacopo) and Giannino Spadoni (later of Fiamma di Re), which the brothers Elio and Guido Rinaldo worked for as teenagers in the 1970s. At the end of the 1980s, the two departed Mastro de Paja to found their own make under their surname. Thus, Rinaldo was born.
The Triade is one of the smooth finishes offered by the Rinaldo brothers by their pipes. Sometimes these finishes are light and natural, while other times, as in the case of this one, they take the guise of a deep contrast stain, though in both instances they are decidedly grain-forward, showcasing the inherent beauty of the briar underneath. This one takes the form of a plump, stacked, modern acorn, and is further distinguished by its sterling silver ornamentation—another specialty of the Rinaldo workshop.
The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening and some finish fading.
