Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
Peterson’s 160th Anniversary pipes are yet another example of the genius of the company’s resident Pipe Specialist, Giacomo Penzo. As with a few other recent limited edition releases, such as the Pipe of the Year for 2020, 2024, and 2025, Penzo pored over early Peterson catalogs for the purposes of reviving classic designs from yesteryear. For the 160th Anniversary, this resulted in not one, but two pipes: the “Pat B” bent billiard and the “Pat OB” straight billiard. Both are homages to shapes from Peterson’s 1906 catalog, having been slightly modernized to suit the tastes and expectations of contemporary pipe smokers while remaining faithful to the originals. Both feature Peterson’s signature, vulcanite P-lip stems and sterling silverware. And both are available in a variety of finishes, though only 2400 pipes in total have been made for 160th Anniversary, so stocks are limited.
