Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
Debuting in 2019, the Nose Warmer series was Erik Nording’s way of offering distinctly Danish shapes in a more compact form, making them easier to travel with than, say, a 7 inch freehand. On the other hand, following the lead of Nording’s Extra Freehand series, his Nosewarmers featured a variety of possible decorative additions, such as polymerized seeds and exotic woods. This looks to be the original 2019 model, a “cognac” design (though I’ve labeled it an apple for ease), and wears a red and black contrast finish that nicely accentuates the cross-grain at each of its flanks, which in turn pair well with the speckled, palm wood accent at the shank’s end.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
