Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
Debuting in 2019, the Nose Warmer series was Erik Nording’s way of offering distinctly Danish shapes in a more compact form, making them easier to travel with than, say, a 7 inch freehand. On the other hand, following the lead of Nording’s Extra Freehand series, his Nosewarmers featured a variety of possible decorative additions, such as polymerized seeds and exotic woods. This particular example is the third shape in the Nosewarmer lineup, a diamond shank bent Dublin recalling the early Danish artisan briars of the 1960s. Dressed in one of Erik Nording’s signature deep contrast finishes, its black and red lit bird’s-eye is matched very fittingly with a speckled, palm wood accent at the shank’s end.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
