At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.

In addition to their functional improvements, one thing that we’ve always been interested in when it comes to our meerschaum pipes is expanding our design portfolio. In particular, we’re always looking to including new shapes that either aren’t commonly associated with the medium, or which have been transformed in the last half century via the briar artisan scene.

In the case of this one, the idea was to capture the spirit of a bona fide classic of briar pipe design: the pot. As far as traditional shapes go, it’s a personal favorite here at MBSD pipes, and it’s a hard one to beat. Whenever we get, say, a Charatan 148, a Sasieni Moorgate, or a Comoy’s 126 out in our estates listings, they tend to go pretty quick, so it was only natural that we bring some of that magic into the medium of meerschaum. And, funnily enough, pots have since become one of the most popular shapes for MBSD Meeerschaum pipes. This one is a slightly more special one than usual, too, as it was carved from translucent-grade meerschaum, an especially pure and porous variety that is typically lighter and faster to color even than the already high-grade meerschaum we ordinarily use.

This pipe comes with a custom-fitted clam-shell hard case.
