L’Anatra pipes are made by the artisan duo Massimo Palazzi and Andrea Pascucci in northern Italy’s Pesaro region. Those with some familiarity with Italian pipes will likely recognize that particular region, as it is the home of what has come to be known as the “Pesaro School” of high-grade pipe making. Through its close network of artisans and workshops, Pesaro has been an epicenter for some of the finest pipes in Europe, including those of Mastro de Paja, Ser Jacopo, Le Nuvole, and—of course—L’Anatra.

Like many of Italy’s high-end pipe makers, Massimo Palazzi and Andrea Pascucci designate their most finely-grained pipes with a single word: Fiammata. Coming from the Italian term for a burst of flame, the L’Anatra Fiammata is a selection of pipes with unrivaled straight grain patterns, setting them apart even from L’Anatra’s more typical, high-grade pipes. This L’Anatra, on the other hand, goes a little further than that. While it is a Fiammata grade, it is also an example of the make’s Nirvana series, one reserved for Palazzi and Pascucci’s finest works, while also being somewhat outside of the norm for L’Anatra designs. In this instance, that translates to a massive, octagonal paneled Dublin rendition, whose exceedingly broad sides make the consistency of the straight grain they exhibit even more of an achievement.

This pipe is completely unsmoked and comes with its original sleeve.
