A common practice among pipe companies in the 20th century was the production of “seconds.” If you can think of a major pipe brand from the last 100 years, it’s almost certain that a seconds brand (or, in some instances, many seconds brands) came from the same production line. Essentially, seconds were pipes that were discovered to have minor, purely cosmetic, imperfections at one stage or another in the manufacturing process. Instead of throwing these perfectly good pipes away, companies used seconds brands to offer them at more affordable prices.

The King’s Cross make has been associated with a couple of different companies over the years, though this one looks to have come from Chapuis-Comoy, the company behind Comoy’s pipes. I would imagine it is a Comoy’s “second,” as Comoy’s itself had a featherweight Liverpool shape just like this one during the 20th century, and that shape also happened to be numbered “133,” as this one is.

The condition is good. Some rim charring and a couple of worn out fills.
