Jason Patrick Sandblasted Long Shank Fugu with Mammoth (Estate)

Illinois-based pipe maker Jason Patrick has been a rising star on the artisan scene since taking up the craft in 2019. A former pastor, Patrick’s first forays into pipe making were simply a means to “sabbath,” though in the years since he’s found himself among America’s most in-demand high-grade carvers.

Blowfish renditions—of which the Fugu is but one species—feature prominently in Jason Patrick’s output, and appear to be especially popular in his commissioned work. It’s not difficult to see why; he has a genuine knack for channeling the most interesting facets of its nearly 50 year evolution, whether these facets originated in Denmark, Japan, or the American artisan scene to which Patrick himself belongs. This one leans into the “long shank” motifs of the Danish giants as well as the asymmetric planes of the Japanese, adding a rich birds-eye blast, a marbled mammoth inlay, and an overall featherweight stature to the design that ultimately keep it very fresh.

The condition is great. Some inner rim darkening. This pipe comes with its original sleeve.
