Genod Extra Large Smooth Bent Egg (Estate)

Genod was founded in 1970 in Saint-Claude, the birthplace of the briar pipe, and today is one of the few remaining traditional pipe workshops in the region. 50 years is already a pretty impressive run for a pipe company, though it should also be noted that the history, or pre-history, of Genod stretches back much, much further. One can ultimately trace the lineage of Genod and its master craftsmen to Saint-Clude in 1800s, as participants in the pipe making revolution that took place there.

Genod’s higher-end pipes tend to wear very light, natural finishes, so as to capture the raw beauty of the briar they’re made from. This looks to be one of those pipes, and it’s a curious one. Rather than the more traditional forms seen in Genod’s catalog, this one has a touch of the freeform to it, and even perhaps a slight Danishness. It’s a rather large Genod too, especially as such pipes lean toward a classical sense of proportions. Nicely done, in any case.

The condition is very good. A spot of inner rim charring and some very slight scratches on the bowl.
