Description

Don Warren is the moniker adopted by New Mexico artisan Donald W. Gillmore. A lifelong woodworker who grew up in a family of pipe smokers, Gillmore was encouraged to make his own pipes by the member of his local pipe club. He’s been at it for well over a decade now, with a portfolio that includes a range of styles and materials, though which leans strongly toward modern, Danish forms.

This is a good example of that modern, Danish influence. Partially sandblasted in a manner that highlights both straight grain and ring grain patterns around the bowl, the pipe’s basic form is one of a large bent egg, accented by an acrylic mount and mouthpiece. Given that Gillmore has produced homages to Kolding’s Bari pipe company before, and given the stylistic connections between this Don Warren and Bari, I might wonder if this is another example of a loving tribute to such makes.

The condition is fair. Some rim charring and finish fading.
