Domenico Grenci Extra Large Smooth Dublin (Estate)

One might consider Domenico Grenci something of a “hidden gem” in the Anglophone pipe world, though as is often the case, that “hiddenness” is hardly true in Grenci’s native Italy. As one of the grand old men of Italian post-war pipe making, he was highly sought after for his pipes, his expertise in the selecting and seasoning of briar, and for his teaching, with two rather notable “pupils” being Fritz and Paolo Becker. Grenci passed away in 1998, with his two sons, Antonio and Vincenzo, continuing the Grenci legacy as pipe makers, though Domenico himself is hardly forgotten among admirers of fine Italian briars.

This particular Grenci is one of the largest of Domenico’s works I’ve personally come across, taking the form of a long, palm-filling bent Dublin rendition with an ever so slight Scandinavian tinge to it. In keeping with his reputation, it’s a beautifully grained pipe, with said grain left in an essentially natural state, just as Domenico preferred it.

The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening and some slight handling marks.
