Description
With its origins in an 1858 collaboration between Jean-Baptiste Choquin and Gustave Butz, Butz-Choquin ultimately become one of the premier smoking pipe companies in 20th century France. The brand is known both for its stylish variations on traditional English-French shapes and for its exploration of atypical and elaborate finishes. The brand is also known for its collaborations with celebrated French pipe-makers, such as Paul Lanier and Alain Albuisson, who made some of Butz-Choquin’s highest-grade pipes for the company.
The Millesime functioned as Butz-Choquin’s version of a “pipe of the year,” being released annually and in strictly limited numbers. The tradition began in the 1980s and continued until at least the early 2020s, with each being a unique design that was also often a little outside of the norm for a Butz-Choquin pipe.
This, for example, is the 2014 release, a long, panel shank brandy with an exotic wood ferrule (possibly zebrawood from the looks of it, or something similar). This one wears a matte black finish that contrasts nicely with the black and tan tones of its aforementioned accent.
This pipe is completely smoked. It is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
