Brebbia 9112 Rusticated Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates
Out of stock
Description
Named for the company’s home township, Brebbia was founded in 1953 by Enea Buzzi, an alum of Savinelli’s manufacturing division. Still in operation 70 years later, Brebbia is one of Italy’s oldest extant pipe companies, with production still being undertaken using simple lathes and traditional methods of hand finishing. More recently, Brebbia has also collaborated with master artisan carvers from across to design some of its pipes, such as Denmark’s Rainer Barbi, Germany’s Otto Pollner and Holger Frickert, Italy’s Fausto Fincato, and Japan’s Tsuge.
As is tradition in Italian pipe making, the Brebbia has its own approach to high-end, stony, pebble-dash rustication, which has been a constant fixture in the workshop’s portfolio going back many decades. Slightly less traditional—at least, in the case of Italy—is the approach to shaping often taken by that same workshop. As previously mentioned, Brebbia also has a long history of collaborations with other notable names in the global pipe industry, resulting in a catalog of shapes that can be rather Danish, or German, or even Japanese. This brandy, or egg, rendition, for example, is strongly evocative of certain strains of German artisan design, especially Otto Pollner. In fact, it is quite a lot like the shape Pollner created specially for Brebbia, which has me wondering if perhaps there was more to that collaboration than I’d first assumed.
The condition is great. Minor rim darkening.
