Big Ben is a Dutch pipe brand presently owned by Gubbels, the same company that currently manufactures Hilson and Bentley pipes. Though, as with many brands owned by Gubbels, there’s a long history to it, especially being one of the very few major pipe brands to have come out of the Netherlands.
Taking its name from the Dutch for “pure,” Big Ben’s Puur line is comprised of pipes that are not stained or dyed as most pipes are. Instead, their bowls are polished smooth and otherwise left exactly as they are. In Big Ben’s words, they are “honest pipes,” both in the sense that they leave the briar in its natural state, and because any cosmetic imperfections in said briar are not concealed with putty fills or dark finishes. That’s what briar is, in its “pure” state, and thus that’s what the Puur reflects.
This pipe is completely unsmoked and comes with its original sleeve. There are a couple of small, cosmetic imperfections but, as stated, that is by design. The pipe is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
