Description
Aldo Velani pipes are made by Cesare Barontini at the latter’s factory in Italy. Originally, Aldo Velani was conceived by Mastercraft to be a new Italian make for the American market, as all of Mastercraft’s other pipes at the time were of English or French origin. Mastercraft partnered with Barontini, and thus the Aldo Velani make was born. More recently, Aldo Velani was acquired by Mitchell Thomas, with production—still by Barontini—recommencing after 2008.
For those looking to dip their toes into pipe smoking, or for veterans simply looking for an affordable workhorse, Barontini’s Aldo Velani make offers the Starter line. Made in Italy at Barontini’s factory, the pipes are dressed in a suitably Italian, pebble-dash rustication and fitted with an ebonite mouthpiece. It’s a modest design, while being a significant step up from those dubious basket pipes one finds at the counters of tobacconists—and, sometimes, that’s all you need for a good smoke.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating
