Nording

Nording pipes were the creation of Erik Nording, a pioneer in Danish-style pipe making and a seminal figure in the creation and popularization of the “freehand” pipe. Starting out in the 1950s, Nording’s first forays into pipe making were through a partnership with Age Skovbo, with whom he established the SON (Skovbo og Nording) make. In the 1960s, Nording set up a workshop under his own name, where he and his apprentices carved pipes that helped define the “Danish style” in pipe design, and took the world by storm in the process. Nording has since become one of the most successful and influential names in pipes, and many a legendary artisan worked under Erik Nording at one point during their career, including Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen and Søren Erik Andersen.
