Description
As with so many of today’s premier Italian workshop makes, the story of Rinaldo begins at Mastro de Paja. The latter was a workshop founded by Giancarlo Guidi (later of Ser Jacopo) and Giannino Spadoni (later of Fiamma di Re), which the brothers Elio and Guido Rinaldo worked for as teenagers in the 1970s. At the end of the 1980s, the two departed Mastro de Paja to found their own make under their surname. Thus, Rinaldo was born.
There is something decidedly old fashioned about this stacked bent billiard from the Rinaldo brothers. From its supple, swan-like, figure, to its warm, walnut finish, and from its amber-toned Lucite stem to its sterling silver collar, it calls to mind not only the early, iconic bent shapes of Dunhill, Peterson, and others, but also the fineries of certain fin de siècle manufacturers. It almost looks like something crafted by the Colossus Pipe Factory in the 19th century, for example, prior to its acquisition by KB&B. This one, however, is truly handmade, making it an even better looking—and surely better smoking—pipe.
It is also completely unsmoked, and comes with its original box and sleeve.
