Description

The Yeti Pipe Co. or, simply, Yeti, is the trade name used by Montana artisan Micah Cryder. Like the great Danish pipe makers of the 20th century, Cryder started making pipes as a teenager, and indeed before he was even legally able to smoke one. This precociousness would be a running theme through Cryder’s career and, even now, just listening to him talk about pipes gives the impression of someone wise beyond their years. By the age of just 20, he had already been awarded first place at the prestigious Pipe Carving Contest held annually by the Greater Kansas City Pipe Club, and it was only up from there. Today, Cryder is well known for his unique eye for form, having been strongly inspired by design movements outside of pipe making (such as Art Deco), and his near-unrivaled expertise in finishing, both in his smooth and sandblasted pipes. Cryder is also well known for his explorations of non-typical materials in modern pipe construction, including repurposed antique Bakelite, and his own, custom resins, created in partnership with Chris Kelly, of Eldritch Pipes.

In the case of this pipe, it is an example of one of Cryder’s favorite shapes, the Dublin, one with exactly the kind of extremely fine, crisp ring grain sandblasting that has come to be expected of Yeti pipes. The accent is fashioned from fossilized mammoth, while the mouthpiece is cut from the aforementioned custom resin. The story behind them is relatively simple: Cryder adores Bakelite, so being able to create a material with the aesthetics of those early 20th century synthetics that was also easier to work with in the context of pipes was something that especially appealed to him. Chris Kelly was the first to float the idea to Cryder, and the two would ultimately team up with the goal of producing something both and practical. Needless to say, the endeavor proved quite the success.

The condition is great. Very minor inner rim darkening. This pipe comes with its original sleeve.
